Volunteer Opportunities The Jungle Book

There will be many volunteer opportunities available throughout the summer. A family partnership with Gooseberry Park Players is strongly encouraged. There are a variety of areas of interest where you can volunteer your time in a creative, meaningful way. Below is a brief list of how you can become involved in the production of The Jungle Book

Why should I get involved with Gooseberry Park Players?

Share a gift or talent – You might have something you do well. We may need your skill. Other kids may need to learn your skill to help the production come to life.

Learn a new skill - For example, scene decorating, stage carpentry, preparing props, sewing spectacular costumes, painting beautiful scenes, "flying" cast members. We also have many opportunities where no prior skill is required. We will teach you.

Have a real sense of accomplishment - There's nothing better than to experience an excited audience that is truly enjoying a show that you know you helped in some personal way in getting off the ground.

Make new friends - There are plenty of friendly people of all ages who will always greet you with a smile, are happy to see you, and grateful for your enthusiasm to help them out.

Meet your child's friends - When you volunteer at Gooseberry you are often working alongside the cast and crew. During this time you get to know your child's friends and "co-workers". Many friendships have started at Gooseberry and continue on to high school and beyond.

Experience working with professional staff - Gooseberry Park Players hires professional staff members. A lot is learned by working alongside these creative individuals.

Fulfill Your Volunteer Commitment - Fulfilling the 30 hour family commitment includes, but is not limited to parents, guardians, siblings, grandparents, or other relatives or friends of the family . Working together as a family helps build family relationships and a stronger community.

OPPORTUNITIES

Costumes - Assist the Professional Costume Designer with a variety of sewing projects. Many skill levels are needed in the costume shop including, machine sewing, hand' sewing, button sewing and other crafting skills. During dress rehearsals and production week there will be a need for assistants to help with dressing, costume changes, and costume repairs. Set: Assist our professional set designer with the construction, painting, and design of the set and props. If you are good with tools and like to work with your hands this is an opportunity for you! All skill levels are welcome. This is a great place to learn new skills or brush up on old ones!

Light/Sound Helpers - Assist our professional light designer with lighting and sound. Assist running crew as needed.

Hair/Make-Up - Assist our professional volunteers with makeup and hair design during rehearsals and during production week.

Production Week Opportunities - During the run of the show we will need help with greeters, concessions, ushering, silent auction, back stage supervision and box office. Ushering a show does not guarantee a "free seat" for the show.

Backstage Help - During the run of the show we have adults in the lab theatre supervising our young actors and actresses. Supervision includes reminding kids to keep their voices down, no eating while in costume, and offering assistance where needed.

Fundraising/ Corporate Sponsor Donations: Assist with in-kind -donations or money donations.

Professional Services, In-Kind Donors - Are you a professional that is willing to donate all or part of your services i.e., photocopies, graphic design, tailor, etc… Do you have access to supplies or goods that might be beneficial to the theatre? In-kind donations are greatly appreciated.

Box Office Assistants - People are needed to staff the box office for ticket sales, answer phones, man the box office during production nights, keep track of ticket sales, and make telephone/ticket calls. If you are comfortable handling money and have good have communication skills this could be a great spot for you.

Poster Delivery and Distribution - Help is needed to deliver and post posters in the community. A list of areas to deliver posters is available. You can sign up for one or more areas. Don't forget the tape and push pins

Lobby Decorations - Prior to production week the lobby is decorated with biographies of the cast, crew and professional staff. If you enjoy scrapbooking or just being creative with paper, glue and embellishments then this is for you! Much of the work is done on Saturday Tech days and evenings.

Silent Auction - Help is needed to solicit for donations and collect items from area businesses for the silent auction. The silent auction is a major fundraiser for us. Donations of gift certificates, theme baskets, etc... are welcomed and appreciated from families, businesses and community members.
